A prom for those in the area with special needs is returning to Pella this spring.
Kelsey Sheets with Launching Arrows tells KNIA/KRLS News the event “A Night of Stars” will be held on Saturday, May 12th at the Vermeer Global Pavilion. She says last year’s event was so successful they wanted to bring it back and make it a tradition.
“A Night of Stars is an event we put together to help celebrate are our individuals with special needs,” Sheets says. “So often, we expect them to come in and participate in the world that’s already created for them and for one night we wanted to celebrate them, where they’re at, and just let them know that they’re special and that we love them and they mean the world to us.”
Sheets says they are seeking volunteers for a variety of the evening’s festivities, including makeup, chaperones, cooks to make meals, buddies for the prom’s participants, and more. Also, they are accepting dresses of all sizes for a dress exchange being held at United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 7th from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in which participants in the prom can bring home a dress for free.
