An unwelcome extension of winter has kept Pella’s favorite flowers from showing their color through the first month of spring, but City of Pella staff is hopeful they will soon be blooming ahead of Tulip Time.

The parks department has been frequently updating a bloom status map showing the condition of tulips in the community.

A stretch of more spring-like weather is finally set to begin over the weekend, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s expected by Sunday and to continue into the middle of next week, according to the National Weather Service. The sun and warmth will help accelerate the growth of the flowers, according to city staff.

Pella celebrates the 83rd annual Tulip Time May 3rd through the 5th. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS, the official radio station of the festival. Click here for the bloom status map.
