Those interested in identifying and learning more about grassland birds can join the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day this weekend.
An event is being held on Saturday, April 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the refuge in Prairie City. At 9:00 a.m., the free activities will kick-off with a bird hike led by a ranger. Birders of all experience levels and ages are welcome to attend. Binoculars will be provided for use during the hike.There will be bird related arts and crafts during the event. Saving Our Avian Resources will be onsite during the event with live raptors, including a presentation at 11:30 a.m. Blank Park Zoo will be on hand between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The Friends of Neal Smith NWR are sponsoring two bus tours, one at 10:30 and another at 12:00 p.m. Call or email the Refuge to reserve a seat on the bus for a tour. Visitors will be able to view the 100 Iowa winners of the Junior Duck Stamp exhibit, which is on display through May in the Prairie Learning Center’s art gallery.
