It was a sprint heavy day for area teams on Friday for day two of the 109th edition of the Drake Relays.

Pella’s Emily Vos got the party started placing fifth in the prelims in the 100m dash with a time of 12.57 seconds. The finish vaulted Vos into the finals Friday evening but she did not run in the final or record a time. Paighton Malek was the other Lady Dutch individual competing, as she placed 15th in the long jump (16’11.75’’). Other Pella girls’ events include 800 meter sprint medley placing 12th (1:50.88), 4x200m placing seventh (1:44.93), and 4x100m finishing 11th (50.02). Pella Middle School boys won the 1600m medley relay and placed third in the 4x100m while the middle school girls placed fifth in the same event.

Pella Christian had both 4x100m relay teams competing. The girls placed 46th with a time of 51.87 seconds and the boys finished 39th in 44.65 seconds.

Noah Anderson was unable to go for PCM in the 100m dash due to injury and forced the Mustangs to reshuffle the 4x100m lineup where they placed 62nd in a time of 45.44 seconds. PCM girls placed 50th in the same event in 51.98 seconds.

Pleasantville’s Hunter Tyree placed 31st in the 100m dash with a time of 11.81 seconds. The 4x100m relay team was set to run last night but was disqualified.

The three day event caps off today and four events are on tap for area schools. Pella will feature the boys shuttle hurdle relay team, Avery Van Zee in the boys 400m hurdles, and Emily Holterhaus in the girls 400m hurdles. KNIA/KRLS will keep you updated throughout the day from all of the action in Des Moines.
