As part of the biannual Drug Enforcement Administration take back program, law enforcement agencies in Marion County diverted over 100 of pounds of unused prescriptions from falling into the wrong hands.

The Pella Police Department collected 77.8 pounds, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received 44, and the Melcher-Dallas Police Department received 2.4 pounds. Local law enforcement agencies have partnered with the DEA to ensure unused or expired prescriptions are safely disposed of, no questions asked. The next drug take back will take place in October. Contact local police departments for more information on how to safely dispose of prescription drugs.
