The Knoxville City Council received an update from 571 Polson Developments during their last meeting concerning the old VA campus.
The campus, which is under the control of the federal government General Services Administration (GSA), still has several steps to proceed through before the land is ready to be sold, including a survey and an evaluation of the soil and buildings. Once a decision is made on how to sell the land, purchase for public services such as the city or school district will have the first chance to buy the land, and if no agreement can be made the land will be open for public sale.
Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the City the school board could potentially want the land for more playing fields, or the Knoxville Raceway would also be interested in the land for more parking and campgrounds; it’s just the city’s job to be as prepared as possible for any outcome. Adams also says he thinks a decision on the land will be made sooner rather than later, and hopefully an agreement can be reached this summer.
