Tonight marks the most important meet of the season to date for Iowa High School track teams, as many area schools hit the road for the state-qualifying meet.
PCM and Pella Christian boys and girls track teams will travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg along with 10 other teams. Numerous PCM girl events are in line to qualify including five events that have the fastest time in the entire 12-team field with Ashley Miller in the 100m, Margo Chipps in the 400m hurdles and the 4x100m, 4x200m, and 4x400m relay teams. The PCM boys’ could also have success in relays, as they lead the 4x100m and 4x200m relay. Pella Christian’s Blake Veenstra leads the discus on the boys’ side and Allison Van Gorp in the shot put for the girls.
Pleasantville will travel to Van Meter. Hunter Tyree will look for his third trip to the state meet, as he leads the 100m and Gauge Van Haalen leads the 110m hurdles. Kylee Van Haalen-Brown could crack the top two, as she has the third longest heave in the discus.
All of the action gets started at 4 p.m. today.
