The Pony Express Riders of Iowa are holding a Horse Show and Queen Contest at the Marion County Fairgrounds on May 28th.

The Memorial Day event will include classes and contests, with membership registration available the day of the show. The Queen Contest will be split up into three categories, a Princess for ages 9 and under, a Junior Queen for ages 10-15, a Senior Queen for ages 16-26. Special needs royalty will also be crowned. Jan Sieren with the Pony Express Riders of Iowa tells KNIA/KRLS News the horse show is focused more on entertainment and gaining experience than competing, because the Pony Express Riders of Iowa are not a real cutthroat organization, and it’s more about answering questions and having some 4-H competitors get a little experience before the county fair season.

The entry fee for a class is $3, or $20 for an all-day pass, and you must be registered to compete in the queen contest. The event opens at 9am for registration, with the shows starting at 10am. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside.
