The Pella City Council is beginning to implement a new sidewalk inspection program.

At Policy and Planning following this week’s meeting, the council discussed an inspection of sidewalk panels in the northeast quadrant of the community. City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News it’s up to property owners adjacent to defective sidewalk panels to make repairs. He says they will begin notifying homeowners this summer, and any sidewalks not replaced by the fall will be contracted out by the city and assessed back to the responsible individuals. Pella is now on a four-year inspection plan, with new guidelines to determine what constitutes a defective sidewalk panel.
