Elementary students at Pella Christian Grade School held a city council meeting Friday morning.

Fourth graders met with Pella Mayor Jim Mueller and City Clerk Mandy Smith, with both discussing how council meetings work and the types of issues they deal with. Students asked questions of the pair before a group of kids gathered to be sworn in as council members and conduct their own meeting. The topic was about adding recycling bins to city parks, with the class discussing the potential benefits before a vote was held by the student city council members, which passed unanimously. Mueller told the class he will bring the matter to the Pella City Council at a later date, and said he hopes the students will come to share their research with the council and watch them deliberate about the issue.
