The first annual Kids Fishing Day, sponsored by the Knoxville Police Department, the Marion County Conservation Board, and the Iowa DNR will be tomorrow at Marion County Park.

The event invites children between the ages of 8 and 17 to learn basic fishing instruction, compete in a fishing derby, and win prizes. Kids are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles if they have one. Knoxville Police Officer Jamie Robinson tells KNIA/KRLS News he wants kids and parents to realize the benefits of fishing because it can be a lot of fun when you are catching fish, but even if you aren’t it is a peaceful and wholesome activity that you can take with you your entire life. Originally scheduled to run until 1pm, due to expected rainfall the event will run from 9am to noon with a lunch of hot dogs, chips, and drinks provided.
