The Pella School Board received an update this week about ongoing efforts to reduce drug use among youth in the community.

Superintendent Greg Ebeling tells KNIA/KRLS News the Pella Youth Coalition has been meeting in large groups and in smaller committees to find ways to better engage students in the community to prevent them from falling into dangerous behaviors.

Ebeling says the group made up of students, community members, parents, and school staff is seeking ways to reduce substance use, with subgroups discussing specific topics of interest. There are additional meetings scheduled over the summer, with a parent update expected sometime in late July or early August. Student participants will be hosting activities for classmates over the summer as well.
