The 3rd annual Helmets and Hot Dogs bike safety event takes place tomorrow.
Children between the ages of preschool-5th grade are encouraged to attend to learn about bike safety, why wearing a helmet is important, and win prizes. Helmet sizes will be adjusted to fit safety standards, and old helmets can be exchanged for new ones. Children can win prizes for completing a bike safety course, and enter drawings for a summer fun basket or a new bike. Marion County Public Health will also hold the “Protect Your Melon” demonstration, where they drop a watermelon with and without a helmet to show how a helmet protects your head, at 12:30. The event will be held in the city parking lot across from Knoxville City Hall beginning at 11:30am. In case of rain, the event will be held indoors at Memorial Hall.
