A car left the roadway on Old Highway 102 northeast of Pella Monday afternoon.

Multiple emergency crews responded to the crash at 2:30 p.m. in which a blue sedan left the highway traveling south, eventually coming to a rest well off the edge of the pavement. The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Fire, and Pella Ambulance assisted the driver out of the damaged vehicle, but he was not trapped.

The operator told police he swerved to miss a deer, lost control after crossing the middle lines, and eventually went down a ditch and struck an embankment. The vehicle was totaled, according to officers.

One person was transported to an area hospital via Pella Ambulance with minor injuries.
