Both the Pella High softball and baseball teams jumped out to 1-0 leads in the top of the first inning on the road last night against Indianola, but couldn’t hang on for victory.
The Indian girls won 6-3 and the boys won 8-1.
In the softball contest, heard live on 92.1 KRLS, Kinzi Van Wyk’s RBI single plated Courtney Thompson for the early advantage for Pella.
The Indians scored two unearned runs in the second to take the lead for good, then added one in the third before Van Wyk launched a solo homer to left in the fourth to get Pella back within one. A three-run bottom of the frame gave Indianola all the cushion it needed before the Lady Dutch scored an unearned run in the sixth.
Van Wyk suffered the loss in the circle for Pella, while Indianola’s Sydney Sickels struck out 11 Lady Dutch batters to get the win. Pella falls to 10-12 and continues its 11-game road trip with a doubleheader at Dallas Center-Grimes tonight.
In baseball, Pella’s 1-0 advantage didn’t last long as the Indians tied it in the bottom half, then scored runs in 5 of their 6 offensive innings to pull away for an 8-1 win.
Jaden Rolffs had Pella’s lone RBI, and Ben Akers threw four innings to take the loss. The Little Dutch are 9-7 and host Centerville this evening.
