The Knoxville School Board met in regular session yesterday. The board approved a diesel fuel purchase agreement with Farm Service for the coming year, and approved personnel hirings including Heidi Feldman as the new drama sponsor.
The board heard a proposal for a one year contract extension with the Knoxville Education Association (KEA). The proposal would extend the current teacher contract that is in place through the 2018/19 school year to the 2019/20 school year, and still allow for salary negotiation in the spring of 2019. After discussing the proposal in a closed session, the board approved a counter offer of a one year contract extension taking out several provisions in the current contract, including items on insurance plans and transfer procedures, as the board does not want to get locked into certain insurance plans in such a volatile market. The KEA will have to agree or reject the proposal by July 1st.
