Widespread power outages and numerous reports of damage came with a round of severe thunderstorms yesterday afternoon.

The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 12:15 to 1:39 p.m. for two warnings with live coverage from Knoxville, Pella, Melcher-Dallas, and Indianola, six staff members contributing, as well as live reports from WeatherEye.

MidAmerican Energy reported at one point more than 1000 customers were without power in Melcher-Dallas and rural Marion County and over 3000 in Warren County.

Damage to trees, outbuildings, flag poles, fences, and power lines was spotted in Melcher-Dallas, Pleasantville, Knoxville, and Attica, as well as other rural areas in the county.

KNIA/KRLS goes into live severe weather action team coverage for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion County, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
