Drivers will have to pay extra attention when traveling Iowa’s roadways moving forward.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Alex Dinkla tells KNIA/KRLS News under a new law in Iowa, all drivers are required to slow down and move around any parked or disabled vehicle with flashing lights.
“If anybody has ever been stranded or broken down in their own personal vehicle on the side of the road, they realize how scary it is with vehicles buzzing right beside their driver side door,” he says. “So the Iowa Legislature has now enacted the ‘move over’ law to include all motor vehicles,” he says.
Previous law only included emergency vehicles, and last year, service vehicles such as utility vehicles and garbage trucks.
Now, Dinkla says anyone who has their hazards on will prompt the law into effect, and he’s hopeful all Iowans will give room to fellow motorists.
