Local residents with the local Church of Latter Day Saints provided a helping hand to flood victims in Des Moines.
According to Leah Bokinsky, church members between Ames and Knoxville were made aware of the Helping Hands’ response to the disastrous flooding in the Des Moines and Ankeny area. The group of 200 organized at a church building in Des Moines and mobilized on July 4th and again on July 7th, armed with wheelbarrows and cleanup kit.
Betsy Lundy of Pella and Bokinsky (pictured above) were among the group that helped on July 7th with three homes, including cutting and removing drywall, scrubbing mold, and moving debris to the curb for homeowners.
