A 16-strikeout 2-hit performance in the pitching circle from Sydney Sickels sent the Indianola softball team to the state championship game, after the Indians took down Cedar Rapids Jefferson 6-0 Wednesday evening.
The Indians struck first with a Sammie Becker RBI single in the bottom of the opening frame, and the game would remain 1-0 until the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Indians took advantage of two walks and four base hits, including a bases-clearing double by Sickels, to score five runs and put the game away. Sickels struck out the side in three innings, and only allowed two singles throughout the entire game.
Taylor Bowlin, Emma Yenger, and Destiny Lewis each had two hits for the Indians. Indianola will now take on #1 seed Pleasant Valley in the state championship game Friday night at 8pm.
