Today we begin the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories for the 2017-2018 school year at Pella Christian with number ten.

On April 12th, the Pella Christian girls soccer team proved that could play with anyone in the state, as the Eagles earned a 1-0 upset victory over #4 North Polk.

The lone goal of the game came late in the first half when sophomore midfielder Annika Terpstra was awarded a 36th-minute free kick just outside the penalty box.  She lasered the ball at the near post, and a Comet defender directed the ball in for an own goal. Senior keeper Rebekah Horstman made five saves to pitch the shutout for Mike Buchheit’s club.

“That was a huge win and not a loss that the North Polk team was expecting.  They already beat DCG, who we know is tough in the Little Hawkeye Conference in soccer and a lot of other sports as well.  So for us to go on the road and shut them out for 80 minutes was a lot of fun.”

That was one of seven shutouts for the Eagles this season.  They went 8-8, but allowed only 16 goals, 11 better than the previous school record of 27 goals allowed during the 2017 season.
