The Top 10 countdown continues for PCM sports for 2017-18 with number eight.
Two neighboring schools, two 15-win teams, and only one could advance in the high school boys basketball postseason. That was the case for the Mustangs and Colfax-Mingo on February 12th, as the two squads met in the first round of the class 2A playoffs and PCM came out on top 59-49. The Mustangs got out to a quick start leading 16-7 after the first and 32-15 at the break. After a third quarter Tigerhawk rally, the Mustangs put it away in the final quarter to seize the win. Head Coach Fred Lorensen says the fourth quarter defense from his team was the difference. Andrew Van Ryswyk had 17 of his game-high 21 points come in the first half while also hauling down 10 boards. Reed Worth was also in double figures with 14 points and Elijah Sperfslage added 10.
The Mustangs were bounced in the next round falling to West Marshall to finish with a 16-6 record.
