A Pella Christian student is spending her week at a prestigious program aiming to sharpen debate skills among young people from around the nation.
Lindsay Breon is attending the Junior State of America Institute on New Jersey Leadership & Politics at Princeton University. Breon tells KNIA/KRLS News she has a developed a passion for the political process, and she hopes to learn how to become better at debating others, especially those with opposing viewpoints.
“In the last couple months, I have been in the process of getting accepted into this political camp,” she says. “I will be involved in different debate situations and learning how to debate with civility.”
“They have different workshops I can do and I’ll meet with government officials through New Jersey and national government.”
Breon intends to have a future in politics after high school.
“My inspiration is a passion for people,” she says. “I have grown up an outgoing people person–I thrive off of seeing people happy and talking to and meeting new people, and learning who they are.”
“So when I see issues that are impacting people’s lives negatively and positively, I want to be able to enable the best kind of life for those people so they can achieve what they want in life.”
The topics explored include congressional elections, pension reform, and politics in New Jersey.
