Those who plan to enjoy the kickoff to the 2018 high school football season will want to be prepared for increased chances of severe weather this evening.
According to the National Weather Service, a slight risk of severe thunderstorms is in place from 5 to 10 p.m. throughout most of Iowa. The best chance for strong thunderstorms is primarily south of Highway 92.
The primary threat will be hail, with a lesser possibility of winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and weak, isolated tornadoes.
KNIA/KRLS will break into live severe weather action team coverage for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion County (regardless of the ongoing status of on-the-air football games on KNIA and KRLS).
