Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue designated three counties in Iowa as primary natural disaster areas Tuesday.
Producers in Lee, Monroe and Wapello counties who suffered losses due to drought may be eligible for USDA or FSA emergency loans. Producers in the contiguous counties of Marion, Mahaska, and Lucas, are also eligible to apply for emergency loans. The deadline is April 10, 2019.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor Report, moderate to severe drought conditions remain in place throughout most of south central Iowa, with additional relief possible through Saturday morning. According to the National Weather Service, another 1-2” of rain is possible during a few rounds of showers and storms during that time frame.
