The Pella Fire Department is hosting their second annual breakfast Saturday to kick off Fire Prevention Week.
Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom tells KNIA/KRLS News they are hosting a morning filled with activities and a meal for all ages.
“We’re going to have activities for the kids,” Van Gorkom says.
Kids will be able to walk through a fire truck, try on bunker gear, and play in a bounce house. Additionally, there will be prizes for raffle to help raise funds.
The Pella Police Department will host their next Coffee with a Cop opportunity at the event for those who want to meet and ask questions of officers, as well as the “What You Don’t See” Trailer for parents wanting to learn the ways teenagers hide drugs in their bedrooms. Proceeds will go towards a new UTV with a tank for Pella Rural Fire calls.
“This year, we are raising funds for a UTV, which will be used for rural brush fires that we can’t get close to situations with our brush trucks that we have,” Van Gorkom says. “It’s an item that several fire departments that I’ve talked to have those, and they are of much value for safety, as well as ease for the firefighters.”
The 2nd annual Pella Fire Department breakfast will be held from 6 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at their station on Main Street.
