It’s an event which will harken back to pioneer days; the Pony Express Riders of Iowa will hold their first-ever Pony Express Pledge Ride for Marion, Jasper and Lucas counties to raise funds for Easter Seals.
The organization invites the owners of horses, mules and historic wagons to take part on Saturday, October 13th; the twelve-mile ride begins from Pleasantville at 2 p.m. and will go over gravel and paved roads.
Jan Sieren from the Pony Express Riders tells KNIA/KRLS News the statewide organization holds other such pledge rides throughout the year; and this one will benefit not only the Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside, but several other Easter Seals initiatives
“The money also helps for respite care throughout the year,” Sieren says. “We also, by donating that money, it helps pay for any kind of disability things that someone might have; whether they need to have a wheelchair or crutches or something for a short period of time.”
A pork loin supper will be served after the ride; there will be a bonfire and live music that evening, and camping is available.
