The City of Knoxville will consider on Monday night the hiring of consultants, to help it develop a plan for the future use of the old Veterans Administration property.
On the agenda for Monday night are proposals for the hiring of 571 Polson Developments, and Snyder and Associates. The former would help develop a long-range land usage plan for the site; the latter would do an engineering survey.
The VA site was largely closed down in 2009, with the last functioning building shutting its doors in 2017; since then, the city and Marion County have contemplated what to do with the location.
The property is now in the hands of the federal government’s General Services Administration; redevelopment poses a number of challenges, including demolition of the existing buildings and which potential users could acquire the property.
Monday night’s City Council meeting convenes at 6:15 p.m.
