All of the short stories in a Grinnell author’s book represent a slice of life; some are set in the South, others in the Midwest, but all look at some aspect of everyday life through her eyes.
Betty Moffett visited the Knoxville Public Library for a discussion and signing of her book “Coming Clean” on Monday. She tells KNIA/KRLS News these stories aren’t meant to be dramatic or sophisticated; they simply reflect the life she’s lived.
“So the stories are different from one another, but they’re not complicated; I think they’re not particularly modern — they certainly would never get into The New Yorker,” Moffett says. “But they’re heartfelt, and they deal with people who were important to me.”
Moffett hopes her story will serve as an inspiration to others to write and tell their stories; and she repeated one saying which she recently heard…that there are three rules to writing short stories — but no one knows what they are.
