A garage is slowly taking shape on the grounds of Marion County Humane Society, as the organization expands to gain more storage space and room for pets.
Construction is underway on the new garage, which will be used to hold the society’s vehicles; Makenna McDonald from the Humane Society tells KNIA/KRLS News it will also be convenient for sorting the cans and bottles they collect for recycling.
“We’ll be using the garage for storage, for our lawn mower and little things like that; and then mostly for sorting cans and bottles,” McDonald says. “We get a lot of those donated, and a lot of the money that keeps us running comes from those cans and bottles.”
The garage will free up more space on the grounds; outside there will be a bit more room for parking in their lot, and inside they will be able to free up space for a few more kennels for the animals they care for.
