Tulip bulb planting is in full swing throughout the Pella community.

Pella Parks Director Chandler Nunnikhoven tells KRLS News the city itself is responsible for over 120,000 bulbs in newly renovated flower beds along streets and in parks.

“We had a revitalization project this fall, that had a local contractor come in and added some more beds and added soil to some more beds,” he says.

Pella Historical Society started planting their bulbs on Monday, which totals over 100,000. Tulips need to be planted before the ground starts to freeze, with numerous varieties planted to ensure flowers are showing from mid-April to mid-May for the annual Tulip Time Celebration.
