The Pella School Board held a rescheduled meeting Thursday.
They approved a request for a high school trip to NASA for the seventh time, which includes four select students who are 9th-12th graders in advanced science classes who wish to pursue a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) career. They will travel to the NASA Space Settlement Design Competition in Houston, Texas. The board also approved a drug & alcohol testing program for bus drivers, and set a public hearing to review the 2019-20 academic calendar.
After action items, the board received enrollment information for the current academic year, and Superintendent Greg Ebeling says 19 students more are attending in the certified enrollment and open enrollment grew as well, which includes 194 non-residents, up 18 from 2017-18. School districts certify their official student headcount, determining the amount of state aid they receive on a per pupil basis for the upcoming fiscal year.
