The South Central Regional Airport Agency (SCRAA) is holding a public hearing Monday as the group advances through the land acquisition process.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Pella Public Safety Complex to provide notice of intent to begin acquiring property for the proposed regional airport project. Letters have been sent to 13 different property owners for the parcels of land in rural Mahaska County that would make up the site for the new airport.

At a meeting this past April, representatives with HDR, the project’s engineering firm, indicated the land acquisition phase could take up to three years after it starts, including those who accept an agreement or through condemnation or eminent domain. Appraisals could begin as soon as next year.
