A number of students from area high schools will be in Newton this Saturday, taking part in the Iowa State Solo Dance Competition.
Dancers from Knoxville, Pella, Indianola, Pella Christian, Pleasantville, PCM and Twin Cedars are among the many competitors taking part.
Over 800 contestants from around the state will be performing before judges, for a shot at placing in the top 12 in the state; each school’s representatives are placed in one of six divisions, and dancers will be moving in and out of the Newton High School gymnasiums and auditorium, and the Berg Middle School gym, from around 8 o’clock in the morning until past 8 o’clock that night.
Knoxville and Pella are in Class 5, and will be performing between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Indianola is in Class 6, and will also be on stage in the morning and early afternoon.
In the afternoon and evening, Twin Cedars will compete in Class 1, Pleasantville in Class 2, Pella Christian in Class 3 and PCM in Class 4.
Many of these same schools and performers will participate in the team championships, to be held November 29th and 30th in Des Moines.
