Pella Regional Health Center is encouraging members of the community to be proactive about memory health.
There will be free, confidential screening appointments available throughout November in Therapy Services in the Orthopedic Center at 500 Jefferson St. near the hospital. A healthcare professional administers the test, which consists of a series of questions and tasks, and takes approximately ten minutes. Memory screening is not an official check for dementia and results are not a diagnosis. Individuals with below-normal scores or who have concerns are encouraged to get a full exam with their physician. Some memory problems can be readily treated, such as those caused by vitamin deficiencies or thyroid problems. Other memory problems might result from causes not currently reversible, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
