For retailers in Knoxville, it was a chance for a respite on what’s usually a slow day of the year…and from the busy season to come.
The Knoxville Chamber of Commerce held an open house at its offices, inviting local business people to come by and enjoy the Halloween atmosphere. But for many, there’s plenty of work to do in the coming weeks, as they gear up for holiday shopping.
Hannah Vander Veer is Executive Director of the Knoxville Chamber; she tells KNIA/KRLS News one of the big advantages downtown businesses have is the square itself, and the ability to invoke an old-fashioned Christmastime image which shoppers will enjoy.
“Retail is definitely changing, and experience is what people are looking for; so if they can go and walk around the square and see the beautiful decorations, and stop in to some shops and get some Christmas gifts, it’s a win-win for everyone,” Vander Veer says.
She these stores and other vendors around town have to find something which can appeal to the consumer, something they can’t find in an out-of-town store or on line.
Vander Veer says the Chamber stands ready to help join businesses together, in promoting what they have available and the ways to enjoy the holiday atmosphere.
