The Fellows of the John C. Culver Public Policy Center at Simpson College are currently participating in the Campus Election Engagement Project, a national organization that promotes voter education, registration, and participation.

Fellow Levi Lefebure tells KNIA News the project is a part of a competition in the state of Iowa that is broken down between the bigger institutions, and the smaller colleges racing for voter turnout.

“Iowa, Iowa State, and UNI are competing against each other, and then the rest of the institutions are all competing against each other. There is an award for most improved turnout since the last midterm, as well as the highest rate of voter turnout. It’s been a fun way to try and encourage more students to get involved and motivate them to beat Central and our rivals, and all you have to do is turn out and vote.”

The goal this year for the project at Simpson College is to get voter turnout for Simpson students to 45%, which would be up 10% from the 2014 midterm election.
