Soon, all voters will be required to show identification when they go to the polls on Election Day; but for this year, poll workers will only be requesting ID when you go to vote instead of requiring you to show one.

Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia tells KNIA/KRLS News the new rules are being phased in so that voters can get used to the concept, and it isn’t mandatory yet.

“2018 is the phase-in year for identification; it is not required, but ID will be requested,” Grandia says. “If you don’t have it, you’ll just have to sign an oath of identity.”

This would be especially important if you are doing Election Day registration; you will be required to show proof of identity and proof of residency. A driver’s license or other state ID with your current address would satisfy both requirements; otherwise, you should bring a photo ID and a bill or bank statement with your address.

Absentee ballots and registration can be done at the County Auditor’s office during regular office hours during the week; and for the election, it will also be open this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
