Since Veterans Day falls on a Sunday this year, Monday will be strictly a federal holiday; and some vets will be able to take advantage of the day off, with a free breakfast at the National Guard Armory in Knoxville.

Kelly Kayser is the manager of the Knoxville Hy-Vee, which is sponsoring the breakfast and providing the food; she says this is an opportunity for the company, and the public, to give back to those who have served.

“From 7:00 a.m. to eleven, we will be serving food to all of our veterans, including their families. Everything will be free,” Kayser says.

Recruiters from the American Legion will also be on hand; the organization is seeking to fill its ranks with veterans of more recent wars, ranging from Vietnam to Afghanistan, and they will be present to sign up anyone wishing to join.

The Indianola Hy-Vee is also hosting a free veterans breakfast Sunday morning from 7-10am, which will include a performance from students of Victory Christian Academy.

The Pella Hy-Vee is hosting a breakfast for local military veterans on Monday, November 12th from 6 to 11 a.m.
