Pleasantville High School’s annual fall play is nearly ready for staging, and more than most shows this one will involve taking several different pieces and putting them all together.

“Maybe Baby, it’s You” is this year’s play running this Friday through Sunday; it’s a series of vignettes dealing with finding and keeping the one you love. Each segment is a stand-alone story, and cast members began by rehearsing each individual performance in smaller units.

With Opening Night approaching, the last few days have involved bringing all the stories together and working on the transitions on stage. Melina Johnson tells KNIA/KRLS News this element makes the show different to work on than the ones they’ve done in the past.

“Transitioning from a small cast that was very tight-knit to adjusting to a cast of I think, 30 and up people and then crew members as well; it’s a big transition, but one that I think we’ve been doing really well,” Johnson says.

But cast member Courtney Fleming says breaking up the performance into self-contained scenes gives more students the opportunity to shine, with less pressure.

“It’s a lot less nerve-wracking than what it would be if I had a man part for the entire play, rather than just my own section of a scene,” Fleming says.

Performances for “Maybe Baby, it’s You” will be on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m. and a matinee on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Saturday night show will include dinner beforehand; advance reservations are required.
