Kisha Jahner and Jon Thorup are the winners in two key Marion County races on Tuesday.
Jon Thorup is the winner in the Iowa House District 28 contest; the GOP contender wins over Ann Fields with 61 percent to 38 percent.
Thorup tells KNIA/KRLS News the health-related issues which kept coming up during the campaign will be his first priority when he takes his seat in the House.
“We’ve heard what most of them are several time throughout the campaign; mental health, various health care things with respect to Medicaid, and also public safety-type issues. And that’s just to list a few,” Thorup says.
The Marion County Board of Supervisors race sees Kisha Jahner defeat Stanley Bingham; she earns 68 percent of the vote to 31 for the Democrat Bingham.
Jahner tells KNIA/KRLS News she wants to keep a close eye on the county’s spending once she takes her place on the board.
“I want to continue to study the budget; I want to continue to study TIFs, which TIFs are going to be coming off,” Jahner says. “And then also, consider looking at taking a position in the county and doing a purchasing agent, because we currently do not have one.”
She also supports the memorandum of understanding between the county and the City of Knoxville for the VA campus, and will do whatever she can to help along the city’s efforts.
Dave Loebsack has retained his seat in the U.S. House; he has won in District 2, defeating challenger Dr. Christopher Peters.
Kim Reynolds has won her own term as Governor of Iowa; she and running-mate Adam Gregg have defeated Democratic challengers Fred Hubbell and Rita Hart.
Republican Paul Pate has won a new term as Secretary of State; he claims the win, defeating Democratic challenger Deidre DeJear.
Democrat Rob Sand wins the State Auditor’s office, defeating Republican Mary Mosiman.
Democrat Michael Fitzgerald wins the State Treasurer’s contest, beating out Republican Jeremy Davis.
The GOP’s Mike Naig wins in the Secretary of Agriculture contest, beating out Tim Gannon.
And Democrat Tom Miller is the winner in the Attorney General race; he defeats Libertarian Party candidate Marco Battaglia.
