The Pella Public Library is hosting a program about the “Orphan Train Movement.”

Retired Reading Specialist Lori Vicker from Viterbo University will present about the historical era tonight at 7:00 p.m. The Orphan Train Movement was a supervised welfare program from 1854 to 1929 that transported about 200,000 orphaned and homeless children from crowded Eastern cities of the United States to foster homes located largely in rural areas of the Midwest. The program is free and open to the public in the Library Meeting Room.
