Several local alumni have been busy in the NAIA volleyball playoffs this week.

From No. 8 Northwestern College, Bekah Horstman was a key player as the Red Raiders went 2-1 in pool play, falling to Marian, but sweeping No. 23 McPherson and No. 9 Rocky Mountain. She collected 26 kills and 7 blocks in the matches. Northwestern advances to the final 16.

Former Pella Christian Eagles Madysen Zula and Christy Veenstra both competed for Trinity Christian College, going 1-2 in their pool, which means they won’t advance. Veenstra had eight kills and four blocks in her final match, while Zula, a sophomore, racked up nine kills and six blocks for the Trolls.

While they didn’t see the floor during the playoffs, former P.C. Libero Sophie Howerzyl and Kayla Moats of Knoxville were part of the Dordt volleyball team that went 3-0 in pool play, which will advance them to the next round of the tournament. The Defenders are 30-2 overall.
