Pella Christian flexed their muscle against their rivals from PCM in a doubleheader sweep heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Eagles girls won 56-27 and the boys defeated the Mustangs 83-52.
In game one, Pella Christian dominated the transition game — stealing 13 possessions and scoring on the majority of those extra opportunities. The key turning point was an 8-0 run out of the halftime break for P.C., fueled by three steals and a blocked shot turning into fastbreak points. Avery Baugh scored 15 points and nabbed four steals, Allison Van Gorp scored 12 with five rebounds, and Emma Huisman scored nine, stole four, and collected eight boards. Regan Freland paced the Mustangs with 14 points.
In the nightcap, Pella Christian controlled both sides of the gym for a full four quarters, jumping to a 22-11 lead in the first eight minutes and never looking back. The Eagles showed how dangerous their perimeter attack can be on offense, hitting 9 of 14 three pointers in the first half. Sharpshooter Daniel Jungling was locked in for all four quarters, going eight of 10 from beyond-the-arc, and hitting at least one in each period. Reed Worth of PCM scored 21 points.
The Eagles girls improve to 2-3 and are off until they head to Norwalk Friday. Pella Christian’s boys head to Carlisle tonight with a 2-1 win-loss ratio. PCM’s boys are now 1-1, the girls at 2-2; each head to North Polk this evening.
