Harvest this year went “fairly well” locally, according to the general manager of Two Rivers Cooperative Tracy Gathman.
He tells KRLS News a round of late season rain did not help farmers in the field and worsened crop conditions in some instances, especially for beans.
“We got started on the bean harvest, and then all of the sudden we decided that we get two of rain, so that caused some challenges,” he says. “Not just to get the harvest in, but it also created challenges with the quality of the crop. Many of the beans that were ready to harvest at the time the all rains hit there, came in carry some weather damage, and some of them sprouted in the pods.
However, overall Gathman says yields were good, but he’s hopeful a settling of trade disputes will open more markets and make those crops more valuable at market.
