In a pair of entertaining and competitive games in front of their home fans, the Pella girls beat Indianola 56-47, while the boys fell to the Indians 89-86 in overtime in a doubleheader heard live on the KRLS2 stream.
The Little Dutch hit seven first quarter three pointers and built and early lead, only to see Indianola take a one-point lead at intermission, which ballooned to 11 midway through the fourth quarter. Pella got hot again late, hitting five more threes down the stretch, forcing the extra frame. But Indianola controlled OT from the opening tip and held on for the win.
Pella coach Derek Schulte says that they’re disappointed to leave without the “W”, but he’s proud of the way his guys competed.
“Offensively it was like trading baskets in the first half. We were finally able to get a few stops in the second half late and were able to make a run. I was really proud we came back from down 11 with four minutes to go and gave ourselves a chance to win. But we’ve got some disappointed guys in the locker room, and that’s the way it should be.”
Logan Shetterly notched his second straight 30-point game, dropping in 31, including five of Pella’s 17 three-pointers. Ryan Gustafson added 16 points and John Oltman chipped in 15.
In the girls game, Pella started with an 11-0 run, saw Indianola climb back even at 19-19, but the Lady Dutch never trailed, pulling away in the middle of the third quarter.
Emily Holterhaus scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, and Grace Held added 11 points.
The Lady Dutch are 2-3 overall, while the Little Dutch are 2-2. Both teams are 1-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play, and they’ll both return to action on Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Fairfield.
