Both Pella basketball teams are looking to carry white-hot winning streaks into the winter break with them tonight when they make the short trek down Highway 163 to Oskaloosa.
The Lady Dutch have won four games in a row, holding opponents to just 33.5 points per game and winning by an average margin of 22 points per contest. Oskaloosa is much improved after a seven game losing skid to start the year, and have won two consecutive on the road against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont and Norwalk, each by a 41-36 margin.
Pella’s boys are starting to creep into state rankings in various polls with a 5-2 record this month, and are seeking a second signature win against the consensus preseason No. 1 rated Osky Indians, who lost their first game of the year Tuesday at Norwalk.
The Little Dutch currently lead Class 3A in three-pointers made at 68, and are third in points per game scored at 72, while the Indians are 2nd in Class 3A at 35.6 rebounds per game–no surprise considering the Division I-bound and seven-foot tall Xavier Foster and 6-10 Cole Henry are on the floor. After many years of dominance over their rivals in the Indians, Pella dropped both contests to the eventual state runners-up in 2018.
Opening tip from Oskaloosa is at 6:15, with pregame coverage starting at 6 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS, as Andrew Schneider and Mike Buchheit call the action.
