The City Council of Indianola heard a proposal from the Iowa Department of Transportation at their most recent meeting, describing a proposal to change the marking structures on portions of Highway 92 and 65/69 from four lanes to three lanes.

The conversion would have a single turning lane in the middle, with the dimensions of the road remaining unchanged leaving larger driving lanes. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the city wants to hear from residents to get as much input as possible before any decision is made

“The council took in all the safety numbers and crash reduction numbers, and we they want to do now is hear from the public. Staff is looking into sharing a survey, there is a video available that we can show to people, and council just wants to hear what people are thinking so they can give a recommendation one way or another.”

Waller also said that the Iowa DOT asked for a recommendation from the council in February of 2019, which was agreed to at the meeting.
