The Knoxville Senior Center is largely recovered from the heavy October rains which flooded its location in the basement of City Hall…but there are still a few finishing touches to be done.

Volunteers pitched in to help dry out, clean out and repair the damage caused when flood waters seeped inside; the kitchen was spared, but the meeting area where programs for senior citizens are held had to be closed off.

Shelly Braley from the Senior Center tells KNIA/KRLS News even though they’re back to regular operations, the recovery process continues on.

“We were closed for an entire month…we had no idea it was going to be that long; but by the time we had to cut some of the wall out and put new wall and new wainscoting and new flooring in, it was a big project.”

There are new floors in the main office; remaining work includes stripping the floor and replacing it with new flooring; Braley says everything should be taken care of in the next few weeks.
