Iowa Congresswoman Cindy Axne, who represents Warren County and Iowa’s 3rd district, has requested that her paycheck be withheld during the federal government shutdown.
According to an official release from Axne to the House of Representatives Administration Office, she wrote a letter requesting the paycheck withholding.
“As a lapse in appropriations and partial government shutdown enters its third week, Members of Congress are still receiving their paychecks. Part of the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Administrative Officer include providing accounting, benefits, and paychecks for Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Therefore, given your direct oversight, I am asking that you withhold my paycheck until further notice.”
Axne also says she is “committed to working with my Republican and Democratic colleagues in order to reopen the government as soon as possible.”
The federal government has been shut down since December 21st.
